We’re delighted to announce the 12 authors longlisted for the SI Leeds Literary Prize 2024, whose eclectic submissions spanned a range of settings, genres and styles, from Asian gothic to historical fiction, short story collections and voices from the Caribbean, Africa and Punjab.
The judges were particularly impressed with the ambitious and socially conscious topics that the manuscripts addressed, including some hard-hitting and complex areas, and felt that the manuscripts make a distinct contribution to the ongoing conversations about race, refugees, displacement and the concept of home.
We’re looking forward to more fascinating discussions between the judging panel in September, when we’ll announce the six shortlisted books for this year’s award.
The longlisted manuscripts for this year’s prize are:
- Nia Acquaye – Mothers, We Three
- Maeve Clarke – Trapped Between Two Worlds
- Nicola Godlieb – The Sun Sets Twice
- Nazish Khan-Lane – God in a Butcher’s Shop
- Angelita Lapuz Bradney – Wildwood
- Arathi Menon – Da
- Jade Mutyora – Make Me Feel
- Vayu Naidu – The Shakespeare Girl
- Chikodi Nwaiwu – The Unknown African
