Prize Award Ceremony: Ilkley Literature Festival, Wednesday 3 October, 7.30pm – 8.45pm
Join tonight’s speaker – author, journalist and broadcaster Bidisha – and six shortlisted writers for the SI Leeds Literary Prize 2018 Awards ceremony. Prize Patron Bidisha will be reflecting on the possibilities for change and diversity in publishing and each finalist will give a brief taste of their work before the announcement of this national, Yorkshire-based Prize for unpublished fiction by Black and Asian women. Acclaimed alumni include Mahsuda Snaith (Things We Thought We Knew), Kit de Waal (The Trick to Time, Women’s Prize for Fiction 2018 longlist) and 2016 winner Amita Murray, whose Finding Rose is published by HarperCollins in 2019.

Words of Colour Director and broadcaster Joy Francis steers this round table discussion with the shortlist of the SI Leeds Literary Prize. This year’s judges are Sharmaine Lovegrove, Susheila Nasta, Kadija George and Winnie Li. As well as sharing their writing, the writers will be reflecting on what it means to be a woman of colour writing in the UK today and how those lived, complex experiences have impacted their work.

Southbank Centre London Literature Festival – Tuesday 23 October, 7pm – 8.30pm
Publisher, editor, broadcaster and critic Ellah Wakatama Allfrey will be in conversation with the 2018 SI Leeds Literary Prize shortlisted writers. The prize is an award for unpublished fiction by black and Asian women in the UK, championing under represented voices and providing platforms which enable them to reach broader audiences. The panel will be exploring past legacies, movements and presses that helped pave the way as well as reading work in response to the discussion.
